Much of the information on the descendants of Johann Ternes and Katharine Koehn is from Joe Solomon of North Ridgeville, Lorain County, Ohio, and from Earl Mahl of Elyria, Lorain County.
In 1880 he and his wife and seven children lived on Abbe Road, Carlisle Township, Lorain County, Ohio.
In 1900 John and his wife Catharine lived in Carlisle with their daughters Elizabeth and Anna as well as their granddaughter Aurelia Minnich (the child of their daughter Emma and Joseph John Minnich), their son Joseph, his wife Catherine, and a hired hand named Conrad Heimer. The family name was transcribed as Terries.
In 1910 he and his wife, their son Joseph, Joseph’s wife Catherine and children Catherine and Carl lived in Carlisle Township. Apparently Conrad Heimer lived with them but his name was reported to be Conrad Ternes. The census reported that John had immigrated in 1855 and was a naturalized United States citizen. His family name was interpreted as Terner on the census.
On August 31, 1915 he and his wife celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. They renewed their wedding vows at St. Mary Catholic Church in Elyria, Lorain County, attended by their eight children, 37 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
The findagrave site gives July 26, 1841 as his birthdate.
The 2016 version of this website reported that he and Katherine were married on Aubust 31, 1864. However there 50th wedding anniversary was celebrated in 1915, so they must have married in 1865.
