Notes for Johann Ludwig Koch
Source: Records of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Pokrent, Mecklenburg.
His baptismal sponsors were Johann Prentzlien, Ludwig Prentzlien, and Anna Elisabeth Burmestern. His father was identified as Johann Wilhelm Koch of Niendorf. “Wilhelm” had been written over another name.
The church announcement of his wedding says he was a farm servant in Alt Pokrent.
His death record said he died of apoplexy--a stroke.
There is the potential for a lot of confusion regarding the villages of Niendorf (in Schleswig-Holstein) and Neuendorf (in Mecklenburg). They are very close together geographically, Niendorf being west of Neuendorf. It appears that the persons recording the events in the church register before 1857 used the name Niendorf to refer to Neuendorf.
Niendorf was used to identify:
His father’s residence as given in the 1786 baptismal register.
His residence when his wife Anna Dorothea died in 1834.
His residence when his son Johann Ludwig Levin was married in 1842.
His place of work at the time he died in 1856.
However, when his daughter Magdalene Henriette Elisabeth married in 1862 and when his son Johann Ludwig Levin died in 1879, Johann Ludwig was described as being from Neuendorf.
He was variously described as being a farm servant, a workman, and a day laborer.

Rosenhagen am Schallsee is in Schleswig-Holstein, just west of the border with Mecklenburg. It is about half way between Ratzeburg and Gadebusch.
