The 1900 census gives Irving as his first name. In 1900 and 1910 he lived with his mother in Elyria, Lorain County, Ohio. In 1920 he lived in Elyria with his wife and two children. He reported that his father was from Ohio and that his mother was from Germany, both of which are incorrect. In 1930 and 1940 he and his family lived in Elyria. In 1940 he was a die maker for a manufacturer.
He reported on his World War I and World War II draft registration card that he was born in Avon, Lorain County.
