He immigrated to Wisconsin with his father and siblings in 1846 and became a naturalized citizen. They sailed from Antwerp, Belgium on the ship “Mount Vernon,” arriving in New York, New York on August 12, 1846.
In 1855 the Wisconsin census recorded him in Taycheedah Township, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin. In 1860 he and his family lived in Taycheedah Township. The census taker used an umlaut when spelling his name. This corresponds to the name Haerig rather than Harig.
In 1910 Peter lived in White Rock, Roberts County, South Dakota with his daughter Anna L., her husband Nickolas Kramer and their children Josephine and Anna L. Kramer.
