His father, Christian Baeder, was born in Germany and was a cabinet maker. His mother, Frances Graber Baeder, was born in South Dakota. Both were born in about 1878. They lived in Topeka, Shawnee County, Kansas in 1910 and 1915. In 1920 his mother was listed as “single” and worked in a textile factory. She and her son lived in Topeka.
In 1935 Leon and his widowed mother lived in Topeka. In 1938 and 1940 the city directory for Topeka listed Leon as married to “Rosetta A.” In 1942 when he enlisted in the army he was married and lived in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California.
In 1954 he was listed in the San Diego, San Diego County, California city directory with his wife Mary.
