She immigrated to the United States in 1850. Her father lived with her family in 1880 in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio.
She had nine children of whom six were living in 1910.

He served in the 107th Ohio Infantry Company E from 1862 to 1865 during the United States Civil War.
In 1880, 1900, 1910 and 1920 he lived in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio. In 1880 his father-in-law lived with Joseph and his family.
Their granddaughter Eunice A. Murphy, born in June 1897, lived with them in 1900. In 1910 his half-sister Emma lived with Joseph, his wife, and his daughter Emma in Cleveland. In 1920 he lived in Cleveland with his wife, his daughter Emma, his daughter Rosetta DeSormoux, and Rosetta’s son and daughter.
The 1920 census reported incorrectly that Joseph immigrated in 1851 from Baden and was naturalized. His wife immigrated in about 1850.
