His baptismal sponsors were Johann Ludwig Koch of Niendorf [Neuendorf], Friedrich Christian Lamme, and Ferdinand Johann Heinrich Koch of Datzow. He was confirmed in 1859.
In 1870 he lived in Brownhelm, Lorain County, Ohio, with his wife Charlotte. A five-year-old boy, Francis Harding, lived with them. Francis had been born in Ohio. Hannah Andrews, the wife of Elbridge Andrews, lived in the adjacent home. In 1880 Henry and Charlotte lived in Brownhelm.
In 1900 he lived in Brownhelm with his wife Hannah. They lived adjacent to the home of his brother Joseph Kane, Joseph’s wife Rosa and their family. The 1900 census gives his year of immigration as 1863. In February of 1901 he and his wife bought a half-acre plot of land in Brownhelm from Albert Bridge for $50. In 1910 he lived with Hannah in Brownhelm. In November 1914 he leased his farm to George F. Ruth. Mr. Ruth took charge of the farm in January of 1915. After that time Henry divided his time between living at the farm and at his niece’s home in Elyria, Lorain County. In 1920 he lived in the home of John H. Kuchenrither and Henry’s niece Emma Ternes in Elyria. He was reported to be an uncle, aged 74, who had immigrated in 1864 and was naturalized in 1867 and was a widower.

Her marriage to Henry Kane was her second marriage. The notice in the Elyria Daily Telephone that she and Henry Kane had been granted a license to marry listed Hannah Andrews as her name.
The 1900 census reported that she was from Ohio, and the 1910 census reported that she was from Michigan. Earlier censuses gave Michigan as her birthplace.
