He and his children had lived at Trierhof (Villa Trevirengi) in Retterath. The children of Johann and Anna Maria Keifenheim who survived past 1846 were Peter, Matthias, Anna Maria, and the second Stephan. Johann and these surviving children immigrated to Wisconsin in 1846. They sailed from Antwerp, Belgium on the ship “Mount Vernon,” arriving in New York, New York on August 12, 1846.
On February 1, 1848 after full payment was made, “John Herrig of Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin Territory” was granted 40 acres of land at Green Bay, Wisconsin Territory.
The 1855 Wisconsin census gave Taycheedah Township, Fond du Lac County as John’s residence.

Gertrud’s parents were Peter Laux and Anna Kreiser. Gertrud was a third cousin of Johann Harig. Peter Bauer provided the name of her birth place and the information that she and Johann had five children.
