He immigrated to Ohio apparently with his sisters Gertrud and Anna Maria (Emma) in 1856. In 1860 he and his wife lived in Elyria, Lorain County, Ohio with their son Henry. They lived in the same house as Gertrude Diederick and her husband John Klein and their family. In 1870 and 1880 he and his family lived in Elyria, Lorain County, Ohio.
