Francis was ordained to the priesthood at the American College, Louvain, Belgium on July 12, 1931. He celebrated his first solemn Mass on August 2, 1931 at St. Peter's Church, North Ridgeville. He served at St. Paul Church in Akron, Summit County, Ohio for 14 years and at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio for 3 years. He was the founding pastor in May of 1948 of St. Francis De Sales Church in Akron.
