His parents, David and Catharine Schindler, were both born in Indiana. In 1880 they lived in French Township, Adams County, Indiana.
In 1910 Elmer lived with his wife Thecla, her mother Mary, and her brother John E. Laux in Wabash Township, Jay County, Indiana.
Notes for Matthias (Spouse 2)
Source: Records of St. Peter’s Cemetery, North Ridgeville, Ohio
In 1880 the census for Matthias’ parents lists a two-year-old girl named Martha. It does not list Matthias. Apparently “Martha” was actually Matthias.
In 1900 he lived with his parents and siblings in North Ridgeville, Lorain County, Ohio.
In 1910 Matthias lived in North Ridgeville with his mother Gertrude, his two brothers Joseph and Fred, and apparently his 3-year-old daughter Winifred. Their family is enumerated in enumeration district no. 122, sheet 15.
In 1920 he lived with his wife Thecla in North Ridgeville. In 1930 he and Thecla lived in North Ridgeville next to the home of his brother Joseph and his family, and near the home of his aunt Katharine Minnich Myers and her son John. In 1935 and 1940 he and Thecla lived in North Ridgeville.
Records for St. Peter’s Cemetery indicate that Matthias’ wife, Katherine Smith (1886-1910), was buried in the plot of Matthias’ parents. Matthias is buried in a separate plot along with Thecla A. Minnich (1877-1943).
