He immigrated in 1848 and became a naturalized citizen. In 1860 he and his family lived in Avon, Lorain County, Ohio. A “Mary Snider”—probably his mother—lived with him. In 1863 he lived in Avon. The Civil War registration form states that he was a shoemaker. In 1870 he and his family lived in Pleasant Township, Henry County, Ohio. They lived near the Christian Romes family. In 1880 they lived in Pleasant Township, near the Christian Romes family and the Stephen and Anna Maria Weber Schmitz family. In 1900 he and his wife lived in Pleasant Township.
New Bavaria is a village within Pleasant Township.
