In 1930 he and his wife Katharine lived in Blue Creek, Paulding County, Ohio, along with her son George and a boarder, Jacob Bell. Jacob had immigrated from Germany in 1894.
In 1935 and 1940 he lived with his son Christopher and his family in Elyria. In 1940 Jake Both, a 52-year-old farmhand from Ohio, lived with the family.
