He immigrated in 1862 and became a naturalized citizen. He enlisted in Tiffin, Seneca County, Ohio on August 11, 1862 as a private in Company I, Ohio 101st Infantry Regiment. He was mustered out on June 12, 1865 at Camp Harker, Nashville, Tennessee.
In 1880 he and his wife and daughters Anna and Lena were enumerated in Dover (now Westlake), Cuyahoga County, Ohio. His name was spelled “White.” They lived next door to his wife’s parents, Joseph “Flora”, Sr. and Lena.
In 1888 he was admitted to the Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio home for disabled volunteer soldiers. His disability was described as heart disease and general debility. He left that facility in April of 1895 at his request and returned to Dover where he was to live with his father-in-law Joseph Fleury. In 1900 he lived in the Ohio State Soldiers and Sailors Home, Perkins Township, Erie County, Ohio.
