His father was from Germany and his mother was from Ohio.
In 1918 he reported on his draft registration card that his name was Frederick William Gilgenbach. In 1920 he and his wife lived in North Ridgeville, Lorain County, Ohio with their eight children as well as his wife’s father and sister. In 1930 he and his wife lived in North Ridgeville with their nine children and his wife’s sister Mary.
In 1940 he lived in North Ridgeville with his wife and four of their children. His son Elmer and Elmer’s wife and son lived nearby.
He reported on his World War II draft registration card that he was born in New Bavaria,[ Pleasant Township, Henry County], Ohio. However the 1880 census for his parents reported that they lived in Palmer Township, Putnam County, Ohio.
