He immigrated in 1872 and became a naturalized citizen of the United States. In 1900 Jakob and his wife lived in Taycheedah Township, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin with four of their children. In 1910 they lived in Taycheedah with three of their children. Their other children lived with and worked for neighboring families. In 1920 he lived with his wife, his son Peter and his daughter Martha in Taycheedah. In 1930 he lived with his wife and daughter Martha in Taycheedah. His son Stephan and his wife lived next door. In 1940 he and his wife and daughter Martha lived in Taycheedah.
