He arrived in New York on April 25, 1906 on the “S.S. Finland” that had sailed from Antwerp, Belgium on April 14, 1906. His occupation was listed as “saddler”and he had $23 in his possession. He was planning to stay with his uncle Vincenz Podar (?) in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio.
In 1910 he and his wife and nine children, as well as a brother-in-law and 10 boarders lived in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio. The census reported that he was from Austria and spoke Slovenian. In 1915 he lived at 979 Addison Road in Cleveland.

According to the Ellis Island web site, Johana arrived at Ellis Island with her seven children on July 23, 1906, having taken the ship the Vaderland from Antwerp, Belgium. Their place of residence was listed as Kranj, Karinthia. Carinthia is currently the southernmost Austrian state, and Kranj is part of Slovenia.
Her first name was listed as Jennie on the 1910 federal census. She was reported to be from Austria and to speak Slovenian. As of 1910 she had had nine children, all of whom were living.
In 1917 she was listed in the Cleveland city directory as Mrs. Jennie Wohlgemuth. She lived at 979 Addison Rd. In 1918 she lived on East 61st St. in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio.
In January of 1920 Jennie may have lived at 1168 Norwood Road, Cleveland, with her children Charles, Angela, Katharine, Victor, Rose and Jennie. The family name was spelled Wolgamuth. The head of the family was listed as a 64-year-old man named Jennie (?). That name was transcribed as Henri. Her son charles was listed as married. after the designation of “head,” Jennie’s entry had the number 2. They shared the home with Lucy and I. Zivoder. That block of NOrwood Rd. runs between St. Clair Ave. and Superior Ave., one block east of East 61st St.

In 1921 and 1922 she lived at 1127 East 72nd St. in Cleveland. She was the widow of John. In 1923 the city directory listed her as Wohlgemuth Jennie (wid Fred), living at 11 27 E. 72nd St.
