In 1900 Catherine was a 41-year-old widow from Germany. She had immigrated in 1881. She had had 10 children, of whom nine were living. She lived adjacent to the family of the late Herman Roling in Amherst, Lorain County, Ohio.

In 1870 “Henry” Roling lived in Amherst, Lorain County, Ohio, with his parents and three siblings. In 1874, “J. and J. H. Roling” were identified on a map of Amherst as the owners of property located toward the north end of Amherst. In 1880, “John H. Roling,” a bachelor, lived in Amherst adjacent to the family of Harmon Roling. John H. owned 33 acres of land, of which 11 were tilled. His farm was valued at $1,900 and he owned three horses. John’s brother Harmon was also included on the Census Non-Population Schedule in 1880.
In 1900 John’s widowed wife and nine children lived in Amherst. They lived adjacent to the family of the late Herman Roling.
