He immigrated to the United States in 1841 and became a naturalized citizen.
In 1850 he and his wife and sons Joseph and Charles lived in Racine, Racine County, Wisconsin with his wife’s parents. In 1860 they lived in Racine with their sons Joseph and Adolph. In 1870 he and his wife and children Adolph, (a younger) Charles, and Maggie lived in Racine. In 1880 he and his wife lived in Racine with their son Charles and daughter Maggie.
In 1900 he lived in the Little Sisters of the Poor home in Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin.
