In 1850 he lived with his father and stepmother in Avon, Lorain County, Ohio. In 1870 he and his family lived in Elyria, Lorain County. In 1880 they lived in Vermilion, Erie County, Ohio. In 1900 he and his wife and three of their children lived in Elyria. The census reported that he was born in June of 1840 and had immigrated in 1846. He became a naturalized citizen. In 1910 he and his family lived in Elyria.
He was also known as Peter Rothgery.
