John and parents and three siblings sailed from Antwerp, Belgium on the bark “infatigable,” arriving in New York, New York on July 11, 1843.
In 1870 he lived with his family in Avon Township, Lorain County, Ohio. In 1870 he lived next door to his brother Joseph Laux. His last name was written “Loux,” but the L looks like an S, so it looks like “Soux.”
In 1880 he and his wife and eight children lived in Avon Township. His last name was written “Loux.” In 1900 he and his wife and their two young daughters lived in Lorain, Lorain County.
A John Laux from Ohio who was buried in South Carolina was supposed to have been born in 1830. He had enlisted in the Ohio Volunteer Infantry in 1863 to fight in the Civil War. He died of a disease in a hospital in Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida. He was not the John Laux who was the son of Peter and Gertrude.
