Each of his three wives had three children.
He was not enumerated with his parents in the 1870 census. In 1880 he lived in Union Township, Pierce County, Wisconsin with his wife Kate and daughter Lena. In 1900 he lived in Union Township with five of his children: Lena, Matthias, George, Johann, and Gertrude, but not Mary. Rosa Margaret and Henry Ernest were not listed in the 1900 census with his family, nor was their mother Frances Bauer. In 1910 he and his wife Frances lived in Union Township with their three children and two of his children from his second marriage. A woman named Maud Van Nortricks, a school teacher, was a boarder at their home. Paul and his family lived near the farm of Caroline Kannel Gilles, the widow of Joseph Gilles.
