In 1860 and 1870 he and his parents and siblings lived in Marshfield, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin. In 1860 they lived near the home of his future wife. The 1870 census indicates mistakenly that he was born in Prussia. In 1900 he and his family lived in Union Township, Pierce County, Wisconsin, next door to the Krings family.
