He and his wife traveled from London to New York City on the “American Eagle,” arriving there on June 28, 1861. They used the family name “Knipper.”
In 1870 he and his wife and 6 children lived in Elyria, Lorain County, Ohio. The census spelled his name Kneiber. In 1880 he and his wife and six of their children lived in Elyria. Their family name was listed as Kniber and transcribed as Knileir.
