Notes for Sophie Muennich
Source: Records of St. Servatius Catholic Church in Landkern.
When Sophie Muennich married Jakob Heucher in 1732, her late husband Nikolaus Gilles was described as villicus (overseer) of Villa Beauweiler.
Sophie may have been the daughter of Peter Muennich and Anna Maria of Esperhof.
The baptismal sponsors for her daughter Maria Elisabeth in 1738 were Johann Anton Gilles, possibly Sophie’s half-brother, and his wife Maria Elisabeth Kayser of Esperhof. In turn, Sophie’s husband Jakob Heucher was a baptismal sponsor in 1743 for Johann Anton Gilles’ and Maria Elisabeth Kayser’s daughter Maria Elisabeth.
Notes for Nikolaus (Spouse 1)
Source: Records of St. Servatius Catholic Church in Landkern and Stephan Buch’s Klotten Familybook.
According to the Klotten Familybook, Nikolaus’ baptismal sponsors were Nikolaus Esper of Esperhof and Barbara Jungclas of Illerich. Nikolaus Esper was born in 1654 to Nikolaus Esper (also called Gilles) of Esperhof and Elisabeth Lauxen. Barbara Jungclas may have been one of the two women named Barbara who were married to men named Nikolaus Jungclas of Illerich at this time.
Nikolaus Gilles became the villicus (overseer) of Villa Beauweiler.
Nikolaus who married Sophie Munnich was identified as Nikolaus, the son of Georg Gilles and Elisabeth of Illerich who was born in 1687, for two reasons:
1. There was no other Nikolaus Gilles of Illerich who was of the proper age to have married Sophie Munnich.
2. Sophie’s husband Nikolaus Gilles was the baptismal sponsor in 1728 for the son of Johann Anton Gilles and Maria of Illerich who was Nikolaus’ nephew if my assumption is correct.
Nikolaus’ and Sophie’s family lived in Landkern, in Villa Beauweiler. Baptismal records are not available from 1715 through 1725 and for part of 1727 through 1729. Therefor one or more of their older children may be missing from the records. Margaretha Gilles who married Johann Lauxen of Landkern in 1747 may have been their daughter.
Nikolaus witnessed the wedding of Arnold Kreucher of Landkern and Susanna (widow of Nikolaus Weber of Sosberg) in 1729. Nikolaus was a baptismal sponsor in 1731 for Maria Margaretha Weber, daughter of Heinrich Weber and Margaretha of Zettinger Muhl.
Notes for Jakob (Spouse 2)
Source: Records of St. Servatius Catholic Church in Landkern.
While he was married to Sophie Muennich, Jakob was an overseer of the Villa Beauweiler estate along with his brother Johann. He was also a synodalis in the church. Children of his died on March 13 and April 1, 1757 and on February 22 and March 25, 1762.
The church record of his marriage to Sophie Muennich said that his father was Nikolaus Heucher, villicus (overseer) in Beauweiler. The church record of his marriage to Katharine Lauxen called him Jakob Heucher synodalis but did not mention that he was a widower.
Jakob was a baptismal sponsor in 1743 for Maria Elisabeth, the daughter of Johann Anton Gilles and Maria Elisabeth Kayser. Johann Anton Gilles may have been Jakob’s wife Sophie Muennich’s half-brother.
Jakob and Katharine had nine children.
