Notes for Peter Muennich
Peter was the villicus (overseer) of the estate of Esperhof. He may have been the son of Friedrich Muennich and Maria Agnes who was born in Illerich in 1679, or possibly the son of Johann Muennich and Margaretha Schaden who was born in 1683, or another Peter Muennich. Based on the baptismal sponsors of the children in these families, it is more likely that he was the son of Friedrich Muennich and Maria Agnes than of Johannn Muennich and Margaretha Schaden. For example, Peter was a baptismal sponsor in 1714 for Peter, the son of Michael Muennich and Gertrud Ungers of Illerich and the grandson of Friedrich Muennich and Maria Agnes. Peter’s daughter Gertrud was a baptismal sponsor in 1730 for Gertrud, the daughter of Reinhard Muennich and Elisabeth of Illerich and granddaughter of Friedrich Muennich and Maria Agnes.
Peter may have been the brother of Anna Katharine Muennich who married Peter Laubach and lived in Villa Sommet.
Peter’s and Anna Maria’s sons Peter and Michael were connected to this family because there appears to have been only one Muennich family living in Esperhof at this time. Sophie Muennich, who married Nikolaus Gilles, the son of Georg Gilles and Elisabeth of Illerich about 1725 and lived in Villa Beauweiler in Landkern after her marriage, may have been Peter’s and Anna Maria’s daughter. She was not originally from Villa Beauweiler since their was no Muennich family living at Villa Beauweiler at that time.
Notes for Anna Maria (Spouse 1)
Anna Maria was the wife of Christian Gilles, villicus (overseer) of Esperhof. After Christian Gilles died, the next villicus of Esperhof, Peter Muennich, was also married to a woman named Anna Maria. It was common for the role of villicus to pass from one man to another when the first man’s widow married the second man. Thus I have assumed that Peter Muennich married Christian’s widow Anna Maria.
Some time after the death of Peter Muennich, his step-son Johann Anton Gilles became the villicus of Esperhof.
Notes for Anna Maria (Spouse 1)
Anna Maria probably was the widow of Christian Gilles who died in 1706 in Esperhof and had been the villicus (overseer) there.
