He immigrated to the United States in 1860 or 1861 and became a naturalized citizen in 1876.
In 1880, 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930 he lived in Avon Township, Lorain County, Ohio.
In 1910 his parents lived with his family. In 1920 his son Aloysius lived with John and Gertrude; John’s son Frank and daughter-in-law Edith lived next door. In 1930 he and his wife lived with Frank and Edith, and his son Joseph and daughter-in-law Flossie lived nearby.
