He immigrated in 1861 and became a naturalized citizen of the United States. He lived with his parents and siblings in Avon, Lorain County, Ohio in 1870. In 1880 he and his wife lived in Avon with their children Julia and Annie. In 1900 he and his wife and five children lived in Avon. In 1910 he and his wife and children Regina, Robert and Amelia lived in Avon. In 1920 they lived in Avon with their son Robert. In 1930 Peter and his wife and granddaughter Pearl were enumerated by the census in Avon. However Pearl was also enumerated with her parents in Elyria, Lorain County in 1930.

The 1910 census gives Gertrude as her name. As of 1910 she had had 11 children, of whom nine were living. The 1910 and 1920 censuses reported that she was born in Ohio and her parents were born in Germany. The 1930 census says they all were born in Germany.
