Matthias,his wife Katharine and their children Gertrude, Anton and Anna sailed from Le Havre, France on the ship “Waverly,” arriving in New York, New York on August 28, 1847.
His wife’s first name is not listed on the 1860 census. Hesse-Cassel was reported to be the birthplace of “Mathew Shaddon,” his wife and three oldest children. In 1870 Matthias, his wife Katharine and children Emma, Peter and Katharine lived in Carlisle Township, Lorain County, Ohio. He and his wife were reported to be from Prussia, and their three children were reported to have been born in Ohio. His name was written Mathius Shaddon.

She sailed with her husband and children Gertrude, Anton and Anna from Le Havre, France on the ship “Waverly,” arriving in New York, New York on August 28, 1847. The ship’s register recorded her as Catherine Schaden.
In 1900 she lived in Elyria, Lorain County, Ohio with a boarder. She had had eight children, three of whom were living. She reported that she had immigrated in 1845.
She died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. M.R. Bennett. Her name was listed as Martha in the obituary.
