Matthias Gilles and Maria Lauxen were first cousins. Their grandparents were Peter Lauxen and Gertrud.

Matthias was a baptismal sponsor in 1775 for Matthias Kreucher, son of Anton Kreucher and Gertrud Heucher of Landkern, and in 1792 for his niece Gertrud, the daughter of Georg Gilles and Maria Elisabeth Castor of Greimersburg.

Her baptismal sponsors were Adam Becker and Maria Heucher, both of Landkern. Adam Becker was from Buechel; he married Margaretha Schustr of Landkern in 1746 and lived in Landkern. (Margaretha Schuster may have been the daughter of Johann Schuster and Sophie Heucher of Landkern.) Maria Heucher was born in 1740 to Jakob Heucher and Sophie Muennich, and thus was probably Margaretha’s half-sister. She married Nikolaus Steegman of Endert Muehle in 1764.
Maria Lauxen was a baptismal sponsor in 1786 for Anton, son of Michael Schnitzler and her sister Maria Gertrud Lauxen of Landkern.
